Independence Day

This week we celebrate Independence day. For the next few days, we will offer a few words from those who helped bring this country into being.
I lament that we waste so much time and money in punishing crimes and take so little pains to prevent them…we neglect the only means of establishing and perpetuation our republican forms of government; that is, the universal education of our youth in the principles of Christianity by means of the Bible; for this Divine Book, above all others, constitutes the soul of
republicanism. --Benjamin Rush
Benjamin Rush (December 24, 1745 – April 19, 1813) was a Founding Father of the United States. Rush lived in the state of Pennsylvania and was a physician, writer, educator, humanitarian and a devout Christian, as well as the founder of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Rush
Reflection
I wonder of our current Republicans find their principles of government in the Divine Book. crsr
