 Trinity Sunday
Introduction to the Liturgy
Resurrection Medical Center

This Sunday continues what is liturgically called “Ordinary time.” However, we will see, as we experience the message Sunday after Sunday that “ordinary time” is very extraordinary indeed. It presupposes that we have died to a way of living before the coming of Christ and now our “ordinary” life is Risen Life. All of the messages that will appear in the liturgy are part of the mystagogy of the Church—teaching about the mystery that Jesus revealed to us.

To continue this season, the Seventh Sunday celebrates the central mystery of our faith, the Most Blessed Trinity.

In the first reading, the Book of Proverbs remind us of God’s involvement of creation that lead to the creation of humankind to join God in delighting in it.

In the reading from the Romans, St. Paul tells us how we participate in the world that God created for us that prepares for participation his glory to come.

St. John, in the gospel reminds us that the Spirit is here with us to guide us in our journey to eternal risen life.

To express these mysteries, our symbol today is a single white iris in the plant before the lectern. The triple petals of the iris coming from one stem has been a long time symbol of the Blessed Trinity.

Through the unfolding of the mystery of God during this “ordinary” season, may we all come to a deeper understanding and appreciation of our ordinary lives.
