March 14
4th Sunday of Lent
Introduction to the Liturgy
Resurrection Medical Center

For each Sunday of lent there is a very special message. Today’s message is that of mercy as exemplified by the Prodigal Father’s forgiveness of his son.

Who can deny that we tend to identify more with the jealousy of the other son than with the mercifulness of the Father?   Yet that is exactly what we are called to reflect upon today.

It needs some out-of-the-box thinking that can only be done from a perspective of love. The younger son didn’t  “deserve” forgiveness but the older son thought he did “deserve” special consideration because of his fidelity.

God’s love is unconditional and doesn’t depend on the condition of the one to whom it is directed.

This year, the Church in the United States is inviting Catholic to return to the faith-- Inviting  them to turn themselves over to the unconditional love of God that is exemplified in today’s gospel.

For our symbol today, we have put a basket in the back with an invitation for us to write down the name of a person that we want to pray to “come home” especially during this Lenten and Easter Season. The basket will be brought up at the offertory and left at the altar all day today.
